Music & Poetry from Appalachia – Parallels with the Welsh valleys’ landscape

Date: 07/06/17
Time: 7:00 PM - 10:00 PM

Acoustic and Poetry Night with an “environment” theme. Part of Wales Nature Week (3rd – 11th June 2017).

The monthly Acoustic Night in June welcomes champion fiddler, raconteur, teacher and poet, Doug Van Gundy and West Virginia Poet Laureate Marc Harshman on their tour across the UK Running With Whisky: Words and Music from Appalachia – with parallels to the Welsh valleys’ landscape. The night will use the environment and landscape of Wales, contrasted with the Appalachian Mountains as a theme.

The evening will include a taste of true “old-time,” traditional music from this state where Elizabethan English persisted longer than in Elizabethan England. There will be storytelling and music that reflect these ancient antecedents. There will be, as well, both music and poetry representing the contemporary concerns and joys of this resilient land and its people.

Open mic contributions this month have now been finalised, so no further open mic slots are available. The usual Acoustic Night format will return in July.
