Celf, Lleisiau Y Cymoedd (CLYC) Art Group Wales
Founded in 2015, CLYC is an emerging collective of contemporary artists hailing from the Welsh valleys. All members have studied, worked and are now commencing to hold group exhibitions together. A number have been practising artists for many years and have enjoyed exhibiting work throughout Wales and further afield.
Certainly the strength of the group lies in its diversity of vision. Each artist engages their practice from a unique set of professional and cultural experiences. Although this collaboration may have its roots in the valleys, a cursory sweep of the exhibition space will impress the importance of personal narrative, with fluent expressions of journey, essence and identity strewn throughout.
These exhibitions are constantly evolving as the artists refine and develop their means of communication, or obfuscation, respectively. The breadth of materials used in creating the works inspire a huge range of approaches, which the artists freely apply to attract, surprise and encourage the audience to participate in an ongoing creative conversation. Each piece is an open invitation to interpret and respond.
CLYC has had the joy of working with many artists since its inception, and the group often invites guest practitioners to contribute towards their public exhibitions. As a collective, the overall ambition is to contribute a growing platform in which to celebrate the diverse artistic energy of the area. As the name of the group and title of the current exhibition suggests, it is to herald the often unheard creative voices of the valley.
VOICES will feature works by Guilia Chiappa, Jo Headington, Goff James, Liz Steed, Luis Tapia and guest artist Leonid Vail.
