Our Sing with Us choirs are fun, uplifting and friendly, and are open to anyone affected by cancer whether you’re a patient, survivor, carer or someone who has been bereaved through cancer. You don’t need to read music or be a great singer to join – every voice counts. Our Tenovus Cancer Care choir leaders are all professional musicians who work as part of our Cancer Support Team and we are supported by our lovely volunteers who make sure all our new members feel welcome.
If you think you might be interested in singing with us, please register your interest either via this form on our website, or by calling our free Support Line on 0808 808 1010 (open 365 days a year). We recommend you do this before coming along to a rehearsal.
Your local choir leader will then get in touch by e-mail or phone, whichever you prefer, to have a chat to you about the choir and let you know how it all works. We’ll invite you to join us at one of our monthly taster sessions, so you can have a go and see for yourself what it’s like to be in a Sing with Us choir.
First and foremost you will hopefully have a lot of fun! You’ll feel energised and excited by our uplifting style of running choirs, with lots of laughing! We also want you to feel really satisfied with the music you learn, so we’ll spend as much time you need working through the music – don’t worry, we don’t use scores and all the songs we choose are popular songs from the 1960s to the 2010s so you’ll always have a good starting point.
And of course the choirs are there to support you, so there is a big focus on all of us working together to make a lovely sound as well as helping each other to cope with the effects of cancer treatment or losing a loved one. Whether you need a friendly ear or you just want to forget your troubles for a while, you’ll find it at a Sing with Us rehearsal.
The Sing with Us choirs are free to join. We do, however, ask all members whether you would like to make a contribution to help keep our choirs running, since we receive no external funding and rely on donations. The suggested amount is £2 per week, payable either through Direct Debit (we’ll give you a form at rehearsals if you’d like) or via a weekly cash donation, whichever suits you best. If you feel unable to contribute for any reason, that’s absolutely fine and in no way affects your choir membership.BACK TO EVENTS
